Welcome to The Avid Gamer Blog!!

My name is Joe and I am currently a Game Designer studying at TriBeca Flashpoint Academy in Chicago, IL. When I'm not studying I thrive on being a full hearted avid gamer and over the past two years I've been able to hone my skills in both game design and art to a level I feel makes me capable to give a more in depth review of the video games and other forms of interactive media. With this knowledge I plan to bring the readers a better understanding of game mechanics and aesthetics allowing them to make a more informed decision when purchasing that hot new release. Also I hope to bring an un-biased view to the table truly stating the strong points and weak points all games have.


This blog will be mainly comprised of my own critiques and experiences but also reaching more  in depth through several different 'lenses' that can be found in a great book any person wanting to be a Game Designer should pick up. The book is called The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses.  This book has been the main resource for myself when I critic my own work making sure the game is plausible and fun. Because ultimately a video games main goal is to provide a source of entertainment to the user. (I don't fully agree yet with video games being an art form, prove me wrong?)


Being a Game Designer I am a big fan of positive and negative feedback. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and you can do so by leaving comments or sending me an email.
